There are many instances when you forget the balance in your account and try to withdraw more than the funds in the account from your nearest ATM.
When you try to withdraw from ATM and if a message pops up that funds are insufficient, make sure that you do not try again else you will be penalized multiple times.

What this means is that if you try to withdraw the amount higher than the balance in the account, the ATM message throws up stating that transaction failed due to insufficient balance. Banks do charge for transactions for insufficient balance.
If you are operating another bank ATM machine and by chance if you make a wrong entry in respect of the amount say Rs 25,000 instead of Rs 2,500, your request can fail in case the account does not hold that much amount.
The reason for transaction failure can be either be due to a negligence on your part or when the machine is not loaded with ample cash. And such penalty is levied by almost all the banks as ATM decline charges.
Transactions declined at other bank ATMs anywhere in the world or at a merchant outlet due to insufficient funds will be charged at Rs 25 per transaction plus service charge.
Banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes bank charge between Rs 25 -28 ( Including service charge).
In SBI, if the ATM/Point of Sale (PoS) transaction declines due to insufficient balance, SBI charges around Rs 17.
IndusInd Bank, transactions that are declined using IndusInd Bank Card at non-IndusInd Bank ATMs due to insufficient funds will be levied a charge at the rate of Rs 20 per declined transaction.
So, next time when a message indicating failure of the transaction due to insufficient funds shall appear on the screen, it should be given importance and a note of the same made.
