Sometimes when you check your PF balance check, you may be surprised by the total amount. It may seem less than your anticipation. There can be many reasons for the low EPF balance.

Pension deduction

The employer or the company that you works with deposits equal amount in your PF account. The employers whole contribution does not go for the PF. 8.33% of employer contribution goes into the pension amount or the EPS. The part of your employer contribution makes up your pension. There is a fixed formula of EPF contribution rate. Because of EPS deduction, the total EPF balance may seem less.

Change in contribution

There will be changes in the PF contribution rates. The current EPF contribution was not from the beginning. The subscribers will try to calculate the EPF balance using current contributions only. The PF contribution would have been very less in previous years. The EPF contribution increases with an increase of salary. When you get to hike the PF contribution will also increase with that.

No update

Lack in the update is a serious problem. This can happen many times that your PF account is not updated till present date. Earlier, EPFO used to show the end of year balance. However, now EPFO tells the current account status of EPF.

Withdrawals

The partial withdrawals and loans from the EPF account can also be one reason of the low EPF balance. Check whether you have taken any loan from your EPF account. The EPF may be the only retirement saving of you. Check the PF balance regularly. Transfer the EPF with the change of job and don't try to withdraw unless it is very necessary.
