Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana is a scheme approved by the government in May 2017 to be implemented by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). SAMPADA is short for Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters.
The scheme is expected to benefit 20 lakh farmers and generate 5,30,500 direct/ indirect employment by the year 2019-20.This information was given by the Minister of Food Processing Industries Ms. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha yesterday.
Objective
The SAMPADA scheme aims at creating a modern infrastructure for an efficient supply chain management from the farms to retail outlets. This will reduce the time taken for the produce to reach final consumers.
The farmers will get a better price for their produce, it will create employment opportunities in rural India, increase processing level and enhance exports of processed foods.
Plan
The following schemes will be implemented under SAMPADA:
- Mega food parks
- Integrated cold chain and value addition infrastructure
- Creation/expansion of food processing and preservation capacities
- Infrastructure for agro-processing clusters
- Creation of backward and forward linkages
- Food safety and quality assurance infrastructure
- Human resources and institutions

Education
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has established National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) in Sonepat, Haryana and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
These institutes have B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D. programs in the area of food processing. A total of Rs 175 crores will be allocated to them to enable expansion needs.
