What is Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC ?
UIDAI offers an online electronic KYC service to verify the identity of Aadhaar number holders. The e-KYC service provides authenticated instant identity verification while significantly reducing the cost of paper-based verification and KYC. However, this online e-KYC method is not available to all agencies and may not be appropriate for some of the following reasons:
- Online e-KYC necessitates dependable connectivity.

- For such verification, no core biometrics (fingerprints or iris) are required.
- The holder of an Aadhaar number can choose which data (demographics and photos) to share.
Security
- UIDAI digitally signs Aadhaar KYC data downloaded by Aadhaar number holders to verify authenticity and detect tampering.
- The data can be validated by the agency using their own OTP/Face Authentication.
- KYC data is encrypted with the phrase provided by the Aadhaar number holder, giving residents access to their information.
Inclusion
- Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC is voluntary and driven by the Aadhaar number holder.
- Any organisation that works with people can use it with the permission of the Aadhaar number holder, allowing for widespread use.
How does it work?
Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC eliminates the need for residents to provide a photocopy of their Aadhaar letter and instead allows residents to download the KYC XML and provide it to agencies that require his/her KYC. The agency can verify the KYC information provided by the resident in the manner described in the sections below. The KYC information is in machine-readable XML that has been digitally signed by UIDAI, allowing the agency to verify its authenticity and detect any tampering. The agency can also use their own OTP/Face authentication mechanisms to authenticate the user.

- In the future, Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC will be available via:
- On a registered phone number, use the mAadhaarmobile application.
- Inbound SMS sent from a registered phone number
- Biometric Authentication is used by Aadhaar Kendra.

How to generate aadhaar paperless offline e-kyc?
Step 1: Visit the UIDAI's official website at https://resident.uidai.gov.in/offlineaadhaar.
Step 2: Provide your 'Aadhaar Number or Virtual ID'.
Step 3: Generate a 'Short Code' for your paperless offline e-KYC.
Step 4: Next, select 'Send OTP' or 'Enter TOTP'.
Step 5: An OTP is received on registered mobile number
Step 6: Enter the received OTP and press the 'Submit' button.
Step 7: A downloaded Zip file, which you must extract using the password specified in the previous step and save the XML file in the desired location.
How to share Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC Information
The Aadhaar number holder may provide the verifying agency with Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC data in digital or physical format, along with the share phrase:
