The West Bengal government has introduced the Shramashree scheme to enhance financial security for migrant workers returning to the state. This initiative aims to provide immediate financial aid and ensure long-term employment and social stability. The scheme is designed to assist workers who have returned from other states, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives in West Bengal.
What is the West Bengal Government's Shramashree Scheme?
The Shramashree scheme provides selected workers with significant financial support. Each eligible worker receives a one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for travel expenses incurred while returning from another state. Moreover, they are entitled to a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 until they secure new employment within the state. This allowance is available for up to one year or until the government arranges suitable employment.

Besides financial aid, the scheme offers additional benefits aimed at enhancing workers' skills and opportunities. Through the 'Utkarsh Bangla' program, workers receive training tailored to their skills. Furthermore, under the 'Udyaman Swanirbhar Karmasansthan Prakalpa', they can access up to Rs 50,000 in financial assistance for self-reliance and loans through various government bodies.
