Driving licences, registration certificates, Aadhaar cards, academic transcripts, and other certificates don't need to be carried about physically because the digital versions that are uploaded to DigiLocker have the same legal standing. Vehicle owners may utilise the digital copies of the documents stored on DigiLocker as reliable evidence in accordance with the IT Act, 2000 and the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
It is a safe cloud-based platform for document and certificate storage, sharing, and verification. From a mobile device, one can access crucial papers at any time and from any location. Indian Railways now recognises digital Aadhaar and driving licences from Digilocker as acceptable forms of identification. More than 30 crore educational certificates are accessible on digilocker.gov.in, the website claims.
Your mobile number is the only thing needed to join up for the digilocker. Your mobile number will be verified for this purpose by sending an OTP (one-time password), which will be followed by the choice of a username and password. Your DigiLocker account will be made as a result. Once the account has been created, you can freely add your UIDAI-issued Aadhaar number to access further services.
What is Digilocker?
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the flagship initiative DigiLocker as part of the Digital India programme. By allowing citizens to store real digital documents in their digital document wallet. DigiLocker is a secure cloud-based platform for storing, distributing, and verifying documents and certificates.
How to upload documents-
1. Go to the digilocker official website, digilocker.gov.in, and sign up.
2. In the following step, sign up with your mobile number and any other information required for the verification process.
3. Now connect your Aadhaar number to it.
4. Select the document to upload from your system by clicking on the upload icon.
5. Select the document and save it by clicking the select 'doc type' option. It should be noted that only files in jpeg, png, and pdf formats can be uploaded.
6. You can even change the name of an uploaded file here. To do so, click the edit icon next to the filename.
Documents that can be uploaded on Digilocker-
1. Customers can access their UIDAI-issued digital Aadhaar card number (Unique Identification Authority of India). It should be noted that Digital Aadhaar is the same as eAadhaar.
2. It has collaborated with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to provide citizens with digital driving licences (DL) and vehicle registration certificates (RC).
3. Users can also use this cloud-based platform to store their permanent account number (PAN) card. Furthermore, the Income-Tax (I-T) department provides real-time PAN Verification records.
4. DigiLocker has collaborated with the Central Board of Secondary Education to provide easy access to student mark sheets (CBSE). This is available to both registered and non-registered CBSE students.
