The Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) of the National Payments Corporation of India is an integrated online platform for utility bill payments. The platform provides an interoperable service via a digital and network of agents, including bank internet banking, mobile banking, and retail shops, allowing consumers to pay their bills anywhere and anytime. When the transaction is successful, the consumer will receive immediate confirmation and a receipt. An SMS would also be sent by the bank or non-bank. BBPS currently covers electricity, telecom (Landline Postpaid, Mobile Post-paid, and Broad-band Post-paid), gas, water, and DTH. BBPS would eventually expand into more categories. There are a few simple steps to pay your bill using the Bharat Bill Payment System.
What exactly is the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS)?
Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) is a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conceptualised system driven by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that provides consumers with interoperable and accessible bill payment services via digital (bank channels) as well as a network of agents and bank branches.
What are the advantages of utilising the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS)?
The biggest advantage is that the consumer has "Control" over all of his bills, which can be paid anywhere and at any time. A transaction can be completed through any customer-facing channel, whether it is electronic (such as the Internet, mobile, kiosk ATMs, and so on) or physical (such as branches and retail outlets across the country) via Cash, Card, IMPS, and so on.
Will I receive a payment receipt once I've made my bill payment?
Once the transaction is completed successfully, the consumer will receive an instant confirmation and receipt. The bank/non-bank will also send an SMS.
What types of recurring payments are available?
Through any of the Bharat BillPay enabled channels, consumers can make all recurring payments such as electricity, telecom, DTH, gas, water bills, insurance, loan repayments, education fees, FasTag Recharge, municipal taxes, housing society, subscription fees, and so on in a single window.
