The Karnataka State Government's Gruha Jyothi Scheme offers lower-income groups (LIG) and members of the state's economically weaker sections (EWS) access to inexpensive housing options. On a unique custom-made page on the Seva Sindhu portal, eligible beneficiaries can register for the programme. One of the electoral promises made by the Congress prior to the 2023 state assembly election was free power for up to 200 units. On Sunday, June 18, the registration period for the programme that will provide up to 200 Units of free energy to all residential homes in Karnataka, including Bengaluru.

Documents needed-
The energy department has stated that there are no records or documents required for registration for the Gruha Jyothi plan, and that consumers can register using their own mobile device, laptop, or in any internet café.
Who is eligible?
The scheme is for Karnataka residential homes whose monthly electricity consumption is less than the average monthly consumption for the fiscal year 2022-2023 plus 10% and falls under the cap of 200 units. Additionally, the Karnataka government has ruled that customers who consume more than 200 units must pay the whole amount due.
How to register for free electricity in Bangalore?
- Go to the official website first at https://sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in/.
- Register on the website by entering your name, address, phone number, and Aadhaar card number.
- Access the website using the generated credentials.
- To access the application form, click on the Gruha Jyoti Yojana link.
- Provide the necessary documentation and fill out the essential fields accurately.
- Click the submit button at this point.
- Contact your local electrical office for more details, or dial 1912 for a 24-hour hotline.
