LPG prices have witnessed revision in June 2024 with PSU oil companies trimming the prices of the highest cylinder 19Kg. Booking a new LPG connection has become easier and more efficient. The method can be followed online at Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP. However, if you do not have any LPG connection from any of the PSU oil marketing companies (OMCs), you can still avail domestic connection for your household. For doing so, you must ensure to have the right documents to apply.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, new LPG Connections are now available on demand across the country. In case you do not have an LPG connection from any of the PSU Oil Companies in your household and you have a separate cooking area in your house, you can avail of a domestic connection in your household.
As per the ministry website, for a domestic connection, you can visit the nearest distributor serving in your area and register for the connection with a valid proof of identity and the address of the residence where the connection is to be installed.
You can apply for a new connection through the mobile app and portal also. But take note of the below-mentioned documents as one of them will be crucial for the new LPG connection.
One of the following documents can be produced for proof of residence: Aadhaar (UID); Driving License; Lease Agreement; Voter ID; Ration Card; Telephone / Electricity/Water Bill; Passport; Self-declaration attested by a Gazetted Officer; Flat allotment / Possession letter; House Registration Document; LIC policy; and Bank/ Credit Card statement.
One of the following documents is required as Proof of Identity for availing the connection: an Aadhaar Card (UID); Passport; PAN Card Number; Voter ID Card; ID Card issued by the Central / State; and a Driving License.
Furthermore, on registration and successful deduplication, the distributor will send you an intimation through SMS/e-mail. You can contact the distributor to avail of the connection. Also, the LPG connection will be released to you immediately.
Also, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas highlighted that before the release of an LPG connection, you should have an ISI mark Hotplate conforming to IS:4246 and a Suraksha LPG hose confirming to IS:9573 (Type IV), so that after the release of your Indane connection, it may be installed at your residence immediately.
For the release of your LPG connection, you will be required to pay a security deposit at the following rates as per the ministry:
- Rs 2,200 for a 14.2 kg cylinder with pressure regulator at Rs 200 for northern eastern states in India such as Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Manipur. The price will be Rs 1,150 for a 5-cylinder.
- The price is the same for the rest of India, however, the price of the pressure regulator is higher by Rs 50 to Rs 250.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a flagship scheme launched for the supply of cooking fuel such as LPG to rural and deprived households, and replace traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, cow-dung cakes etc. Ujjwala Yojana scheme is not just affordable for low-rural region citizens but it is also a method to protect citizens from traditional cooking fuels that have detrimental impacts on the health of rural women as well as on the environment.
Initially, the scheme was launched in May 2016 in Ballina. However, with the success of the Ujjwala scheme, the government revamped the scheme and launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 which has an additional allocation of 1.6 Crore LPG Connections under the PMUY scheme with special facility to migrant households. The target number of connections under Ujjwala 2.0 was achieved during Dec'22, thus taking overall connections under the scheme to 9.6 Crore.
