As against the earlier trend where NRIs were required to wait for sometime before they being eligible for the Aadhaar card. In May 2020, the FM proposed, NRIs holding Indian passports should be given the aadhaar card on arrival.

Now in its latest tweet, UIDAI said the NRIs need not wait for 182 days. The tweet also mentioned that the NRIs with a valid Indian passport may apply for Aadhaar on arrival to India.

How NRIs can apply for Aadhaar?

As an NRI you need to first visit any of the nearest aadhaar enrolment centre and carry a valid Indian passport with you. There after you need to provide the details in the enrolment form that the aadhaar enrolment officer provides you with.

Now in the next stage you need to ensure that the declaration for NRI enrolment is complete i.e. different from the regular process. Read and sign the same in your enrolment form.

Ask the operator to enrol you as NRI.

You need to hand in your passport to the officer who has been handling the process. For the address and date of birth proof, you can submit the same passport document.

Now biometric process has to be completed and you need to furnish fingerprints for all of your 10 fingers. As part of biometric data verification, Iris scan shall also be carried out.

For the photograph, you need to carry a passport size photograph. The government will take your picture on the spot and print it.

All of your details can be screened before you allow the operator to submit the details of your aadhaar application.

Collect the acknowledgement slip/ enrolment slip that has your 14-digit Enrolment ID and Date and Time Stamp. Now in a matter of 90 days which is an usual time for the issuance of this identity card you need to wait. You can track the progress online with the use of your enrolment number that was provided by the enrolment centre.
