The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is a retirement savings scheme that is administered by the retirement fund body Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The scheme is available to all salaried employees in India where both the employee and the employer make an equal contribution towards savings that can be availed upon retirement or after switching jobs.
It is often seen that we feel the need to check our PF balance in order to plan our expenses, avail a loan against our EPF balance, or check the status of our PF balance.

Provident Fund (PF) subscribers can check their EPF balance through SMS, by giving a missed call, the EPFO app/Umang app, and the EPFO Portal.
One must note that salaried employees can check their EPF balance with their unique identification number (UAN) or even without UAN. Here are a few simple steps you should follow to check your PF balance with UAN.
UAN is provided for all employees enrolled under the EPF scheme. All employees should have only one UAN during their lifetime irrespective of the jobs they change. UAN is crucial as the entire process related to the EPF services is now operated online.
Step 1: Visit the EPFO portal. Go to the tab 'Our Services' and select the option that says "For Employees" from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: Now, click on the option 'Member passbook' under "Services."
Step 3: A login page will appear. Submit your UAN number and password here after it has been activated.
Step 4: Choose the 'Member ID' and click on the 'View Password [Old: Full]' option.
Step 5: Your PF details will appear on the screen.
Step 6: You can print this passbook by clicking on the 'Download Passbook' option.
Check PF Balance Through a Missed Call
You can know the status of your EPF balance by giving a missed call to the authorized phone from your registered phone number. Remember, that this service is only available upon the integration of your UAN with your KYC details.
Besides, in order to check your EPF balance through missed calls your UAN must be activated, your mobile number is registered with the UAN, and your UAN must be linked with other essential documents like PAN, Aadhaar, and bank account.
Once the UAN is integrated with your KYC details and all these requirements are fulfilled, you can check your PF balance through a missed call by following the below listed steps:
- Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
- After placing a missed call, you will receive an SMS with your PF details.
