On September 17, 2023, the 73rd birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he announced a new scheme PM Vishwakarma Yojana for skilled craftsmen and small-scale artisans of India. In a grand event at the India International Convention and Expo Centre, the Yashobhoomi Convention Center in Dwarka witnessed the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. This scheme, with an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore, aims to provide financial support, training, and modern skill development to traditional trades, empowering artisans across the nation.
The PM Vishwakarma Yojana, initiated in honour of Vishwakarma Jayanti, is a testament to the government's commitment to uplifting the lives of its citizens through efficient and impactful schemes. With a focus on 18 traditional trades, including carpentry, blacksmithing, pottery, and more, the scheme targets both rural and remote regions, aiming to seamlessly integrate skilled artisans into domestic and international value chains.

To reap the benefits of this scheme, artisans must meet certain eligibility criteria
Be an artisan or craftsman in any of the 18 trades.
Not have any family members employed by the government.
Be above 18 years of age.
The required documents for online application include an Aadhaar Card, PAN card, Bank Account Passbook, Educational Qualification Certificate, Active Mobile Number, and Passport Size Photograph.
