On Thursday, the Ministry of Railways announced that it has achieved 100 percent punctuality "with all trains." "First time in the history, Indian Railways has acheived 100% Punctuality of trains on 01.07.2020," the Ministry said in a tweet.
"Previous best was 99.54% on 23/6/20 with only one train getting delayed," it added.
However, the Indian Railways is only operating 230 (115 pairs) special trains across the nation due to the coronavirus crisis. The number is significantly smaller than the 12,000 trains it used to run every day in the pre-COVID period, transporting around 2 crore people.
All regular mail, express and passenger services as well as suburban trains have been cancelled till 12 August 2020.

Union Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, expressed his happiness at the achievement of the Railway Department in a tweet: "Trains in the Fast Lane: Enhancing services to unprecedented levels, Indian Railways made history on 1st July 2020 by achieving 100% punctuality rate."
The railways had recently appealed to all passengers to come to the station 90 minutes in advance and not earlier than that to avoid crowding at the premises since passengers have to be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 before boarding the train.
