Trading on a flat note
The Nifty didn't show any significant growth. Nifty was looming around 5980 level. The European market were slow in trade.

Sensex declines 32.5 pts; Nifty 6 pts
At 1:12 pm, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 32.5 points to 19,983 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 6 points to 5,978. Even broader indices were quiet as breadth was mixed.

Shares of telecom, healthcare and HDFC group along with NTPC, Infosys, Wipro, Reliance Industries and Jindal Steel were trading with mild positive note.

However, the sell-off in capital goods, FMCG, cement, auto, select power and metal companies' shares along with TCS and ONGC weighed on the markets.

Christmas holiday keeps markets quiet in opening trade

Following thin trading during Christmas Holiday, markets on Thursday, Dec 23 began on an quiet note, though with a mild positive bias.

At 9:30 am, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 20,034, up 19 points and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 11 points to 5,995.

SBI, HDFC Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Dr Reddy's Labs, Ranbaxy Labs and Tata Steel, who among the frontliners, wer witnessing buying interest.

However, Hero Honda, SAIL, Bharti Airtel and Hindalco were on sellers' radar.
