The management asked 1600 workers on Monday to sign a good conduct bond, seeking an assurance that they will not indulge in activities that would hamper normal production at the unit, following which some refused to sign the bond. The production has not been started yet as the conflicts are still on, but there are indications that it will resume today with alternate arrangements by appointing workers on contract basis.
The company has also suspended 11 workers at Manesar unit (five workers and six trainees) yesterday due to some quality issues.
Those who have been expelled and dismissed are being charged with sabotage and causing quality problem in cars produced last week.
Production at the plant came to a complete halt yesterday, with the company preventing workers from entering the factory without signing a good conduct bond.
“There had been no final solution yet and the Manesar issue would take time to settle down. However, he was hopeful that the matter would not take too long to resolve itself," Maruti Suzuki"s chairman RC Bhargava told CNBC-TV18.
The company has already lost around 1,200 units of production and Rs 40 crore in revenue due to the halt in production. The company has been facing serious production issues, including meeting targets and quality control in the past few weeks.
During the last 13-day strike at Manesar unit in June, the company faced slowdown in its production losing 12,600 cars, which were valued at about Rs 630 crore.
To take a stand over this issue, the management has decided to move all non-automated production work from Manesar unit to Gurgaon unit.
