Reliance Communications have been entered into the contract with HDFC Bank for 15 years, where the company would build a new facility of over 3,50,000 sq feet in Mumbai for HDFC Bank data centre.
The initial phase of 1,00,000 sq feet of the project will take one year and the entire data centre will be completed within two years.
"This is the single-largest deal of this size in the sector so far - we've been competing for this the last 10-11 months," Reliance Globalcom president and chief executive officer Punit Garg told ET.
Reliance Globalcom is part of Reliance Communications that provides managed network and data centre services to enterprises.
''Reliance currently has 21 data centres spread across the globe, nine of which are in India. We have been adding practically one facility in India, every year. We see a growing opportunity in this area and hence have embarked upon creating this large facility. With our strength in data centres and connectivity services, Reliance is now ready to serve customers' growing demand for pay-as-you-use for infrastructure, platform and software-as-services,'' Garg said.
This will also become the new cloud computing centre, since the cloud computing market is expected to grow to Rs7,000 crore in India by 2015, he added.
