The stand-off between the management and the workers was settled few days back, with the workers agreed to sign a ‘good conduct bond’. Under the agreement, the company took back 18 trainees but did not take back 44 casual workers who were suspended on charges of causing quality problems in cars.
The bond which the workers signed states that workers will "not resort to go slow, intermittent stoppage of work, stay- in-strike, work-to-rule, sabotage or otherwise indulge in any activity, which would hamper the normal production in the factory".
The permanent workers at two plants went on a fresh strike from the second shift inside the plants in support of casual workers who were suspended by the company.
"A sit-in protest by workers has started inside the Manesar plant around 4 pm this afternoon," an MSI official said PTI.
There are an estimated 2,000 protesting workers inside the plant who are on strike, including 700 permanent employees, Maruti said in the statement.
Maruti Suzuki India has already reported 17% fall in sales from 81,060 units an year earlier to 66,667 units in September due to prolonged labour unrest.
“The disruption in production owing to the labour issue at the company's Manesar plant during September adversely impacted the sales numbers during the month,” the company said while releasing a statement.
Maruti may lose out against its competitors in this festive season because of this another blow.
Company is trying its level best to sort out the matter between the management and the workers so as to prevent the loss.
The spokesman from the company said that the company intends to hire more workers at its plants including most of the temporary employees who haven’t been taken back to increase the production and to meet out the festive demand.
“We will hire them as and when we expand. Most of them are likely to be absorbed,” the spokesperson said.
