The Indian benchmark indices opened lower once again, as the falling rupee played spoilsport. The Sensex was down 70 points at 9.40 am IST and was trading at 15,964 points, while the Nifty was down 20 points.

Among the shares that gained in trade today were Gail, Bhel, Reliance Infra and Mahindra and Mahindra. Among the shares that lost ground in trade today were Tata Power, Ambuja Cements, Maruti Suzuki and Grasim. Tata Power lost ground as the company reported huge losses.

Asian markets were also trading lower today as problems in Greece and a downgrade of Japan's rating continued to see markets trending lower. Former Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos has said that his country may have to prepare for an exit from the eurozone and though the move was unlikely, it was real.

Shares of A2Z maintenance shot up after reports that Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had picked a stake in the company.
