RBI to incorporate changes in banknotes of 1000 denominations

The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday said that it will shortly issue Rs 1000 denomination banknotes incorporating rupee symbol, with inset letter 'L', in both the numbering panels, in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005.

The new banknotes will have improved security features, bearing the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao, Governor , Reserve Bank of India, and the year of printing 2012 printed on the reverse of the banknote.

The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 1000 Banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series- 2005, issued earlier, RBI said in the press release.

All the Banknotes in the denomination of Rs1000 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.
