Power stocks gained after a ruling by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission that offered a compensation package to Adani Power.

Shares in Adani Power jumped 9 per cent, while Tata Power gained 4.66 per cent, CESC gained 1 per cent, JSW Energy jumped 5 per cent and Indiabulls gained 1.35 per cent.

India's power sector has been reeling under high costs and rising input costs like coal. New projects have been stalled as coal linkages are proving difficult to come by.
