States receive capital subsidy of more than Rs 28,000 crore

States have received a total capital subsidy of Rs 28,623.63 crore by the Centre under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) since its inception. The highest capital subsidy has gone to the State of Bihar, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, and West Bengal.

"In the current year a total capital subsidy of Rs. 2068.24 crore has been disbursed to the States till date under RGGVY. The highest amount of subsidy disbursed till date during the current year is to the State of Uttar Pradesh followed by Bihar," a government release states.

Under the RGGVY free electricity connections to 214.82 lakhs BPL households have been released in the country during the 10th & 11th Plans till date. The highest number of these free electricity connections have been released to the State of Odisha, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

A total of 171 projects have been sanctioned under the 12th Plan under RGGVY for electrification of 10574 unelectrified villages, 161367 partially electrified villages and release of free electricity connections to 110.93 lakhs BPL households. A capital subsidy of Rs. 35447 crore has been provided for the continuation of RGGVY in the 12th Plan
