The Government on Tuesday launched Aadhaar e-KYC service for issuance of mobile connections as an alternate to the existing tedious documentation process.

This means that the Aadhaar card holder need not submit multiple documents as ID and address proof for availing mobile connection.

As per the new rule, customers can now authorise using their Aadhaar number and biometrics to provide their details such as name, address, date of birth, and gender along with their photograph.

As per UIDAI, the digitally-signed electronic KYC data provided by UIDAI is machine readable, making it possible to directly store it as the customer record in their database, the DoT said in its notification.

"For the consumer, instant activation means better experience and security of personal confidential information. For Vodafone, it will improve quality of sales as well as regulatory compliance. For the regulator, it not only means a green initiative, but hassle-free governance and accurate audit results," said Sunil Sood, MD and CEO, Vodafone India to PTI.

Now, customers will be able to walk in with their Aadhaar card and walk out connected within minutes.
