The country has as many as 1 crore families under the pension regime.
In order to continue receiving pension, central and state government pensioners are required to fill in life certificates every year in November. The recent aadhaar enabled life certificates are more being employed and as many as 33 lakh pensioners have reported to submit the digital life certificate by November 1.

In the year 2014, Jeevan Praman was launched which is a biometric backed facility for pensioners. Currently near one crore families in India fall under the pensioners category.
Still the system faces some lacunae as the aadhaar verification process could not be completed due to fingerprints blurring. As an alternative effective method iris authentication is being looked after.
"We have made all preparations for submission of digital life certificates across the State. The response has been good," Mohan Rao, Director of Treasuries & Accounts, AP, told one of the leading business dailies.
