Wheelchair friendly East Coast Railways

The East Coast Railway introduced a foldable mobile wheelchair ramp on Saturday at the Bhubaneshwar, Vishakapatnam and Sambalpur stations. The passenger can inform the wheelchair section near Chief Ticket Inspector's (CTI), present their identity cards and avail this service for free.

Old BHEL trains phased out

After several issues were reported with the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) trains including an incident of fire at the Dadar station in Mumbai, the Central Railway decided to withdraw them. They have been upgraded with a new fleet of Bombardier rakes with better passenger amenities.

Baby feeding cabins in Kerala

For the comfort of mothers with infants, breastfeeding cabins will be set up all over Kerala. The first one is already been put up in Kollam as part of the project with the help of the city's Rotary Club.

Chairman reviews South Eastern Railways

Chairman of the Railway Board Ashwani Lohani did a performance review of the South Eastern Railway (SER) at its headquarters in Garden Reach, Kolkata. He instructed the officials to bring changes in work culture in every sphere especially safety like track maintenance and also cleanliness.

Loading performance

Minister of Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal tweeted, "Once again Railways has shown remarkable performance in their loading this financial year, outshining previous year's performance.

Feb'18 also witnessed highest ever loading by Indian Railways in a day, making railways growth engine of the economy."

The Indian Railways' total loading increased by 5% from 1,001 MT in April-February 2017 to 1,050 MT in April-February 2018.

Makes history by converting diesel loco to electric

The Indian Railway's locomotive production unit in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh converted a diesel locomotive into an electric one using Indian technology. This is reportedly the first attempt anywhere in the world.

The work was completed in a span of two months.

Luxury train tariff cut by 50%

The Railway Ministry has decided to cut the traffic charges by 50% on luxury trains like Maharaja Express, Palace on Wheels, the Golden Chariot, Deccan Odyssey and Royal Orient.

These tariffs usually range between Rs 10,000 to Rs 34,000. This slash will be borne by State Tourism Departments, partners or stakeholders like IRCTC.

Railway Police nabs 200 bullies in 10 days

The Railway Police Force (RPF) has fined over 200 train bullies in a span of 10 days by commuting in plain clothes and carrying secret cameras.

They have recorded the culprits in action in Mumbai that were preventing passengers from boarding trains in between Borivali and Virar stations of Mumbai local trains.

This has fetched the Western Railways Rs 75,000 in fines.
