Indigo airlines has increased its charges on excess baggage carried on its domestic flights by 33 percent. The low-cost carrier has hiked its pre-booked luggage charges beyond 15 kgs by one-third to Rs 1,900 for 5 kgs, Rs 3,800 for 10 kgs, Rs 5,700 for 15 kgs and Rs 11,400 for 30 kgs from Friday, June 22.

Just last August, the charges for pre-booked luggage were revised to Rs 1,425 for 5 kgs, Rs 2,850 for 10 kgs, Rs 4,275 for 15 kgs and Rs 8,550 for 30 kgs. Additionally, those who had not pre-booked their excess baggage were required to pay Rs 300 extra per kg. This rate too has been hiked by 33 percent.
Earlier this month, Air India had increased its excess baggage charges by 25 percent. Other carriers too may follow suit in increasing their rates.
Air India allows carrying 25 kgs of luggage for free for its passengers, which is higher than 15 kgs allowed by other carriers on domestic flights.
