As per a PTI report, passengers who will be boarding a flight from the Delhi-based Indira Gandhi Airport may soon be required to pay more as the operator has made a strong call to increase passenger handling charges. It is suggested that the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) is asking for a constant passenger service fee (PSF) of Rs. 77 for every departing passenger.

In the current regime which is effective since July last year, domestic and international flyers are required to pay Rs. 10 and Rs. 45 each as user development fee charges. If the new proposal receives approval, it would mean a straight increase of Rs. 67 and Rs 32 for domestic and international passengers, respectively.
Earlier it was reported that the government-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and private operators have asked the centre to increase PSF charges by 50%. With this, the total hike taking into accounts both the PSF charges and facilitation fees, could go up to Rs. 150 on a per passenger basis for those flying out of Delhi.
This is to be noted that the new levy will only be applicable to Delhi-based IGI airport. Nonetheless, there is another passenger service fee of Rs 130 that is charged from flyers individually at airports across India to cover the security cost for state police and CISF personnel deployed there.
