The second largest IT company Infosys on Monday said that it is looking to set up software development centre in Kolkata and the foundation stone for which has been laid by Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal.

The new software development centre, spread over 50 acres, will be established in the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in Kolkata.
The company plans to construct a 5,25,000 square foot centre with an initial investment to the tune of Rs. 100 crore. In an initial phase, the centre will look at providing employment opportunity to as many as 1000 engineers.
In a statement further the IT company clarified that the first phase of the project will be duly completed within 15 months of receiving all the statutory clearances and approvals.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Infosys, Salil Parekh in a statement said, "I congratulate the Government of West Bengal on laying the foundation stone for the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub, here in Kolkata".
Also, the official added, "On this special occasion, I would like to thank the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, for giving Infosys a unique opportunity to be a part of this prestigious project, and further strengthen our presence across the country".
