On Tuesday, a senior official from the Indian railways confirmed that the unreserved ticket buying or UTS mobile app for buying unreserved tickets will be available all across India from November 1. The scheme though started 4 years hence was successful only in Mumbai with the heaviest local train passenger count. The scheme then was later started for Delhi-Palwal route and then Chennai.

The scheme is also available for passengers who wish to travel for long distances without reservation of seats or berths in the Indian Railways.
Thus far, the scheme has been implemented in as many as 15 zones with the West Central Railways and Northeast Frontier Railway as the two remaining zones.
"With certain zones not being a part of the app, a lot of passengers were unable to use it. Any station intersecting these zones was left out of the app. From November 1, it will be available across India," a senior Railways official said.
Also, there is a limitation that person can access the app to buy unreserved tickets only when he is 20-25 m away from the rail station and a maximum of 4 tickets can be bought at a time.
On the positive side, the app can be accessed for buying platform tickets as well as monthly passes.
