On Friday, the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) was hiked by 8.15 percent or Rs 4,734.15 per kilolitre to Rs 62,795.12 per kl, according to a notification issued by state-owned oil retailing firms.

The increase was attributed to the rise in international oil prices and is the first upward revision in 4 months. These rates are revised on the first day of every month based on the international prices and foreign exchange valuation in the preceding month.

On 1 February the prices were unchanged. Prior to that, rates were cut by a record 14.7 percent (Rs 9,990 per kl) on 1 January and by 10.9 percent (Rs 8,327.83 per kl) on 1 December.

Despite being revised to its highest level for the year 2019, ATF continues to be cheaper than more commonly used fuels in the country like petrol, diesel or non-PDS kerosene. On 1 March, per litre of petrol in Delhi was priced at Rs 71.81 while diesel costed Rs 67.12. In comparison, ATF is cheaper at Rs 62,795.12 per kl or Rs 62.79 per litre. Non-PDS kerosene in Delhi is priced at Rs 64.46 per litre.

ATF in Mumbai, home to one of the busiest airport in the country, costs Rs 62,748.70 per kl or Rs 62.74 per litre.
