Adani Ports, Larsen and Toubro lead gainers

Adani Ports and Larsen and Toubro were both leading gainers on the Nifty. Yes Bank, which had collapsed following a poor set of results, also saw some buying support. The stock was up 6 per cent in trade.

European markets open lower

European markets opened the day lower, as investors continued to fret over trade wars with the US. The German DAX was down 1 per cent, while the FTSE was down 0.6 per cent. Asian markets too were trading lower.

Nifty, Sensex see profit booking

The Sensex and the Nifty are seeing some profit booking at higher levels. The Sensex which was up 1,000 points is now trading with gains of just 280 points. Some selling is being seen in heavyweights like ITC and Vedanta, while Adani Ports and IndusInd Bank are the top gainers.

Profit booking at higher levels has pulled the markets lower from historic highs. The NDA tally also has come down in the last 1-hour from 341 seats to 331.

The Sensex has surged 907 points to cross the 40,000 Points Mark for the first time. The Nifty has crossed the 12,000 Points mark for the first time, as the benchmark has rallied 270 points. The NDA is also set to storm back to power with a similar majority as in the previous elections of 2014.

Indusind Bank, IndiaBulls Housing lead gainers

Indusind Bank surged a huge 7 per cent and was the top gainer among the Nifty stocks. IndiaBulls Housing and State Bank were the other gainers in trade.

The Sensex hit a new record high, as the benchmark index surged 700 point, while the Nifty was a few points away from hitting the 12,000 points level. It is highly possible that if the election trend prevails, the markets may hit this level today.

Sensex surges 500 points to record high as NDA leads

The Sensex surged by 500 points in early trade, as trend were indicating the NDA was set to gain a comfortable majority. Te Sensex was last trading higher by 542 points at 39,661 points.

Rupee opens strong

The rupee opened strong at 69.44 to the dollar, as against 69.66. The markets are also expected to open strong, as NDA at the moment seems heading for a majority.

Indian markets may open higher, as NDA looks set to get a majority, based on early trends. However, one must remain cautious as vote counting is still in its early stages.

SGX Nifty turns positive

The SGX Nifty has turned positive, following a strong early showing by the BJP led NDA. If the trend persists, the markets may open extremely strong today.
