The IRCTC division of the Indian Railways which is used for booking train tickets through the online mode has decided to yet again levy service charges on booking of tickets. These charges were earlier waived off 3 years back in order to give a push to digital transactions.

Though as per a leading dailies report, it is still not confirmed whether the restoration shall be to the tune of earlier charges. Furthermore, the e-ticketing arm of the behemoth is still to receive official order or restoration of service charges.
Here's why IRCTC e-tickets will become costlier?
Some of the points stated by Railway Board in its letter dated August are as though:
IRCTC has presented a detailed case for the restoration of previously levied service charges on e-ticket booking via IRCTC and the case is being examined by the concerned authority.
And further to it, Ministry of Finance has suggested that the earlier roll back on service charge was a temporary stem and the Indian Railways can now again levy such charges on sale of train tickets.
Hereafter, the IRCTC will decide on the restoration of such charges together with the quantum of its levy.
In the previous instance, for AC and non-AC e-ticket via IRCTC, the railways charged Rs. 20 and Rs. 40 per ticket, respectively.
