The month of March has begun and a host of changes will come into effect that will directly play a role in your savings and expenses and hence impact your monthly budget. With the comeback of sizzling summer, if you are planning to book railway tickets, you might need to check out the new rules. Apart from that, key changes will be implemented in UPI payments, usage of social media platforms and notable revisions to be felt in petroleum products.

Here is list of changes to come into effect in March.

1. LPG Prices:

The oil marketing companies (OMCs) have declared massive good news before the festival of Holi. For the month of March 2026, the LPG cylinder prices in 19 kg have been reduced by Rs 28 to Rs 31 across major metro cities, a big boost to Indian households. However, the prices of 14.2 kg LPG cylinders have remained unchanged.

2. ATF Prices:

On the other hand, OMCs have hiked the prices of jet fuel, which is a key factor that is considered by airlines in deciding airfares. ATF is one of the major expenses of airlines which is passed onto passengers eventually.

From March 1, 2026, Indian Oil raised air turbine fuel (ATF) by Rs 4,977.24 to Rs 5,498.50 across major metro cities. The prices also surged in dollar terms.

3. CNG, PNG, Petrol & Diesel Prices:

As of now, no changes are seen in CNG, PNG, petrol and diesel prices, but they can be modified in the coming days, tracking international crude oil prices. Last month, Adani Total Gas had reduced its CNG and PNG prices by up to Rs 4.05 per Kg and Rs 4 per SCM, while Torrent Gas trimmed its prices by Rs 3.50 per Kg in CNG and by Rs 2 per SCM in PNG.

4. UPI payment system:

From March 1st, your UPI payments method could change as banks have made it obligatory to use additional biometrics or multi-factor authentication for higher value transactions instead of just UPI PIN.

5. Minimum Bank Balance:

Many public sector banks (PSBs) have reportedly announced changes in the minimum balance requirement. It needs to be noted that as per reports, many PSBs have waived the minimum savings bank account balance charges, while private sector banks are yet to follow suit.

6. Train Ticket Bookings:

New rules have been announced for booking general and platform tickets from March 1, 2026. This is because Indian Railways will discontinue their older UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile application from this month and replace it with the new RailOne app for booking tickets.

RailOne offers ease of access for all sorts of services to train passengers. These include: - Reserved & Unreserved Tickets - Platform Tickets - Enquiries about Trains - PNR - Journey Planning - Rail Madad Services - Food on Train - and Freight Services information is also available.

7. Sim Binding Rules:

A new sim-binding rule will be put in place from March 1, which is expected to prevent fraud and cyber crimes.

The Department of Telecommunications has mandated App Based Communication Services to be continuously linked to the SIM card (associated with Mobile Number used for identification of customers/users or for provisioning or delivery of services) installed in the device, making it impossible to use the app without that specific, active SIM. Also, the regulator has mandated that the web service instance of the Mobile App, if provided, shall be logged out periodically (not later than 6 hours) and allowing the facility to the user to re-link the device using QR code.

The announcement will be pivotal to safeguard the user when using social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Snapchat, Arattai, Sharechat, Josh, Jiochat and Signal.
