Niti Aayog and IFPRI Sign Statement of Intent
The SoI between Niti Aayog and IFPRI aims to fortify policy and program frameworks that contribute to India's development objectives. Recognizing the pivotal role of agriculture in India's growth, the collaboration seeks to leverage the sector's potential to drive manufacturing and economic revival.
Agriculture's Central Role in India's Development
Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery emphasized the central role agriculture will play in India's development trajectory. He stressed the importance of increasing agricultural productivity while adopting natural and soil-friendly practices. Bery highlighted that strong rural demand supports manufacturing and economic revival, making it critical for India's transformation over the next 25 years.
Collaborative Work and Shared Insights
Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand expressed optimism about the collaborative work between the government think tank and IFPRI. This partnership is expected to generate new insights into the role of agriculture in shaping economic development in India and other emerging economies.
SoI Activities and Focus Areas
The SoI activities will encompass a range of initiatives, including developing and tracking rural transformation indicators, supporting the design and evaluation of flagship programs, providing policy analytical tools, and generating evidence on India's agri-food trade in regional and global contexts.
IFPRI will offer policy analytics and support to Niti Aayog in mutually identified areas within the broader realm of food systems transformation. The initial focus will be on agriculture, rural development, trade, and climate change policies in India.
The partnership between Niti Aayog and IFPRI marks a significant step towards harnessing the potential of agriculture to drive India's development. By fostering collaboration and leveraging expertise, this alliance aims to contribute to the nation's economic revival and long-term transformation.
