Days after the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad sparked concerns about passenger safety, the Tata Group-owned airline has reportedly slashed travel tickets on international routes to regain passenger confidence.
Air India Flight AI171 crashed minutes after take off, killing nearly 241 passengers and crew members, along with 34 people on the ground. Air India Plane crash, which included Boeing 787 Dreamliner, is currently being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. The June 12 incident has significantly impacted Air India's demand among air travellers, according to a Times of India report. In a bid to regain passengers' confidence, Air India has significantly reduced its air travel tickets.

Air India Slashes Travel Tickets On International Routes
There has been a growing aversion among passengers to Air India flights, especially for last-minute bookings for the carrier, reported the Economic Times. According to the ET report, the Advanced Purchase Days (APD) for Air India travel tickets have declined significantly since the June 12 accident. APD is a fixed duration, several days before which a flight ticket needs to be booked on or before the travel date to avail discounted rates. Booking tickets after that may lead to phenomenally higher fares.
Air India Flight Charges Reduced After Ahmedabad Plane Crash
Flight tickets for Air India's key routes like New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur, Delhi To Dubai, Sydney, and Melbourne saw a significant fare reduction, reported ET.
As per ET's analysis, flights from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur fell by 16% to Rs 11,389. Travel tickets from Delhi to Dubai and Sydney also fell by 5%. Air India flight tickets from Delhi to Melbourn also fell by nearly 2%. Air India tickets on domestic routes also declined for the month, compared to other competitors providing services on the same route.
Air India Travel Tickets Price Comparison
While Air India flight tickets on or after June 20 are priced at a similar range to that of its competitors, there was a massive gap in the ticket prices of Air India and other airlines for June 20.
Air India flight (connecting) ticket from Delhi to Amsterdam was priced at around Rs 57,757 per passenger. Whereas, flight tickets on the same route by Lufthansa, Gulf Air, Air France, and Emirates were above Rs 90,000.
Air India is currently offering the lowest price on flight tickets from Delhi to Sydney, which is priced at Rs 49447 per person (one way) for June 20. Whereas flight tickets for the same route for Etihad Airways, Qantas Airways, Malaysia Airlines, etc are priced above Rs 1 lakh.
Air India Ahmedabad Plane Crash
Days after the June 12 crash, Air India Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, informed Maharaja Club members that the Air India plane that crashed was 'well maintained'. In an email to the members of Air India loyalty programme, Wilson mentioned that the right engine of the Air India's Boeing aircraft was overhauled in March 2025. The left engine of the aircraft was infpected in April. The aircraft was fully inspected by the team in June 2023, and the next inspection was scheduled for Decemberm 2025.
