Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, leading Indian airlines Air India and Vistara have announced adjustments to their flight routes for safety reasons. This decision comes in the wake of India's advisory to its citizens, urging them not to travel to Israel and Iran due to potential security threats. The advisory was issued following concerns over possible retaliatory attacks by Tehran on Israeli territory, a response to an incident involving the Iranian consulate in Syria nearly two weeks ago.

Air India and Vistara, while not providing specific details on the new flight paths, have reportedly begun avoiding Iranian airspace for their flights heading towards Western destinations. This strategic move aims to ensure the safety of passengers and crew amidst the uncertain geopolitical climate in the region.
An Air India spokesperson emphasized the airline's commitment to passenger and crew safety as their utmost priority. "We are closely monitoring the developing situation in the Middle East. Presently, our aircraft will operate on alternative flight paths to and from India," they stated. Notably, Air India is the sole Indian carrier offering direct flights to Israel, with four weekly flights connecting Delhi and Tel Aviv.
Vistara also echoed a similar sentiment regarding operational adjustments due to the current Middle Eastern situation. "Due to the current situation affecting parts of the Middle East, we are making changes to flight paths of some of our flights," a Vistara spokesperson explained. The airline is utilizing contingency routes, prepared in advance for such scenarios, to maintain operational continuity. However, these changes may lead to extended flight durations and possible delays on certain routes. Vistara assured that they are keeping a vigilant eye on developments and are prepared to make further adjustments as necessary.
The swift response by Air India and Vistara highlights their proactive measures in navigating through geopolitical tensions while prioritizing safety above all. As the situation in the Middle East evolves, both airlines remain committed to adapting their operations to ensure uninterrupted service and safeguard their passengers and crew.
