The world's largest cloud computing platforms - Amazon Web Services (AWS) is all set to set up multiple data centres in Telangana State with an estimated investment of Rs 20,761 crores.
Announcing the news on Twitter, Telangana's Minister for Information Technology and Industries - KT Rama Rao tweeted "Happy to announce the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the history of Telangana! After a series of meetings, AWS has finalized investment of Rs 207.61 billion ($2.77 billion) to set up multiple data centres in Telangana. The @AWSCloud Hyd Region is expected to be launched by mid-2022 #HappeningHyderabad".

The official release from KT Rama Rao, the son of Chief Minister - K Chandrasekhar Rao stated that the AWS would set up an AWS Region with three Availability Zones (AZ) in Hyderabad. The AZs will consist of multiple data centres in separate locations within a single region which are engineered to operate independently of one another with physical security, power, connections through low-latency network and cooling, the statement read.
It further added that the AWS Asia-Pacific region in Hyderabad is expected to start the operations by the middle of 2022. The official release stated that "Establishment of data centres like AWS is expected to support Telangana's digital economy and information technology (IT) sector in a multifold way".
"The AWS has chosen Hyderabad because of the support provided by the government of Telangana, robust policy framework, and because it best met the rigorous requirements for an AWS Region," he said.
"This investment from AWS, the largest FDI that the state has attracted since its inception in June 2014, will act as a strong anchor for attracting other technology investments. This investment further strengthens the existing relationship that Telangana enjoys with Amazon, which has the largest office campus in Hyderabad," he added.
The setting up of new data centres in the region will increase the operations of sectors including banking, financial services, e-commerce, insurance, IT, public sector and so on, the official release read.
