Maharashtra is observing a state-wide bank holiday today on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti, which is one of the most important festivals in Maharashtra that commemorates the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire.

On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, banks in Maharashtra will remain closed today, February 19, 2025. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday list, under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This means that public sector banks, private banks, cooperative banks, and regional rural banks in the state will not be operational for regular banking transactions.

However, online banking services, mobile banking, ATMs, and digital payment platforms will continue to function as usual, ensuring that customers can carry out essential financial transactions without disruption.

While banks in Maharashtra remain closed, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will continue their regular trading operations as they do not observe a holiday for Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti.

Apart from banks, certain government offices and educational institutions in Maharashtra will remain closed or function with limited staff. Businesses and commercial establishments, however, are likely to remain open, depending on local guidelines.
However, it should be noted that, public transportation services, including buses, local trains, and taxis, will operate as usual, ensuring that commuters can travel without disruption. Essential services such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and emergency services will remain fully operational to address any medical or urgent needs.
Upcoming Bank Holidays in Maharashtra
Maharashtra will observe a total of four bank holidays in February 2025, including two Saturdays when banks will remain closed as per the RBI guidelines. The next major bank holiday in Maharashtra will be on Holi, which falls on March 14, 2025. Following this, banks in Maharashtra will remain closed on March 30 (Sunday) for Gudi Padwa and March 31 (Monday) for Eid-ul-Fitr. Additionally, the second and fourth Saturdays of March will also be designated bank holidays as per RBI regulations.
