Bank Holidays 2025: Indian scheduled commercial banks are likely to be closed in a few cities of India due to the celebration of Bohag Bihu. Hence, services that require customers to visit their bank branches could not be available on April 16. It needs to be noted that bank holidays in India vary from state to state. That being said, check out the cities where banks are closed.
Bank Holiday On April 16:
As per RBI's list banks will be closed on April 16 in cities like Guwahati due to Bohag Bihu celebration, which is a key traditional ethnic festival of Assam. Hence, banks could be closed in other regions of the state as well.

Services like applying for debit or credit cards; making lump-sum deposits or withdrawals, applying for loans or overdrafts, updating passbook, submitting applications for new chequebooks, or opening a new account or investment FDs, among others --- are some of the services that are offered by bank branches.
Not just that, a visit to bank branches is also required for many pension or provident fund-related services. For instance, to submit a life certificate for pensions, you require your respective banks' stamp and signature, and this will require you to visit the branch.
Since banks will be closed on April 15, these bank branch-related services may be impacted. However, ATM services will be operational 24X7.
Notably, in April 2025, there are a total of 11 special holidays announced for banks, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays, as per RBI.
There are no bank holidays on April 17.
All About Bohag Bihu!
Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu also called Xaat Bihu (seven Bihus) is a traditional ethnic festival celebrated in the Northeastern Indian state of Assam and other parts of Northeastern India by the indigenous ethnic groups of Assam, and marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. The festival is of mostly aboriginal origin comprising Tibeto-Burman and Tai elements. It usually falls in the 2nd week of April, historically signifying the time of harvest. Every year it falls on the 14th day of April. The holiday unites the different native communities of Assam regardless of their backgrounds and promotes the celebration of ethnic diversity, according to Wikipedia.
Notably, Rongali Utsav is a festival organised in Guwahati every year, which showcases the tribal culture of Assam to the world.
