Bank Holiday Today: Banks will remain closed in more than five regions on Wednesday, October 22, on the occasion of Diwali and Laxmi Puja. There was a bank holiday on Monday and Tuesday in several regions due to Diwali celebration week. The holiday has been extended in certain states.

Banks are closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Nagpur regions. Which means that it is a bank holiday today in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. As per the RBI calendar, banks will remain closed today in these regions on the occasion of Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Vikram Samvant New Year Day/Govardhan Pooja/Balipadyami, and Laxmi Puja (Deepawali).

Other than the above mentioned regions, banks are open today in Agartala, Aizawl, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada regions.
Bank Holiday This Week
Banks are scheduled to remain closed for nearly six days in this week because of Diwali week celebration. While, most of the bank holidahys of the week may vary from region to region, Saturday will be a bank holiday across the country as it will e the fourth Saturday of the month. As per the RBI guidelines on bank holidays, banks will remain shut across the country on second and fourth Saturdays every month and every Sunday.
Diwali is celebrated over several days with various traditions observed throughout the week. The festivities begin with Dhanteras when devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi Lord Ganesh and Lord Dhanvantari. The main day involves Lakshmi Puja performed between 7:08 pm and 8:18 pm during auspicious times known as Pradosh Kaal from 5:46 pm to 8:18 pm and Vrishabha Kaal from 7:08 pm to 9:03 pm.
The extended bank holidays reflect the importance of these cultural celebrations across India allowing people time off work to participate fully in rituals associated with this significant festival period.
