Bank Holiday Today & Tomorrow: Banks Are Closed On March 3, March 4 For Holi, Check City-Wise List

Banks will be closed on March 3rd and March 4th due to the celebration of Holika Dahan and Holi during these days. However, the bank holidays may vary from city to city. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holds the right to decide holidays for all commercial banks in India.

Bank Holidays On March 3:

For the celebration of Holi, Dol Jatra, Dhulandi, Holika Dahan and Attukal Pongala, banks will be closed in cities such as Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada

Bank Holiday On March 4:

However, banks will be closed in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Shimla. This will be due to Holi, Dhuleti and Yaosang 2nd Day festival.

From the RBI list, it is stated that banks will be closed in Kanpur and Lucknow for three-days straight this weekend. While banks in cities like Patna, Ranchi and Dehradun will be closed for two consecutive days.

Holi 2026:

Holi is a traditional old sacred festival of Hindus, celebrated widely across India and in many regions of other countries. The festival is celebrated with fun and playful manner by throwing coloured water and powder at each other. The significance of the festival is triumph of good over evil.

Dol Purnima 2026:

Banks are closed due to Dol Purnima, which is also popularly known as Dol Jatra, Doul Utsav, Dol yatra, Deul or Holi. It is a festival of swing or swing feast and is celebrated during full moon night or fifteenth day of the Falgun month mainly by Gopal community. This festival is widely celebrated in states like Assam, Bengal, Braj region, Gujarat, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tripura.

Dhulandi 2026:

Dhulandi is yet another term for the celebration of Holi, marking the beginning of spring season.

Attukal Pongala 2026:

Attukal Pongala is a 10-day Pongala festival celebrated in the month of Kumbham (February-March), at the Attukal Temple in Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerala. On the ninth day, a full moon day, considered the pongala day, millions of women gather near the temple surroundings and prepare consecrated food made of rice in earthen pots (pongala/porridge) and offer it to Attukal Amma, the Goddess of the Temple, as per Wikipedia.

For March 2026, banks are in for a long holiday month. In total, all scheduled commercial banks of India will enjoy eighteen holidays, including second and third Saturdays and all Sundays. Furthermore, to add more cherries to their joy, banks will have at least 11 festive holidays. These festivals include Holika, Eid-Ul-Fitr, Gudi Padwa, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti, among others, which will be celebrated this month.
