Bank Holidays 2024: Indian banks are all set for a long weekend, precisely four consecutive holidays await, while in total they will enjoy seven days of holiday from October 5th to October 14th. The month of October is filled with the festive season alongside general elections, with the majority of the holidays due to Navratri festivals.
Here is the long list of bank holidays in the next few days:

October 6:
All banks in India will be closed due to the Sunday holiday.
October 7, October 8, October 9:
These are the only working days when banks in all states will be open.
October 10:
On this day, banks in several states will be closed across India. This is due to Durga Puja/Dussehra (Maha Saptami).
Cities in which banks will be closed are - Agartala, Guwahati, Kohima, and Kolkata.
October 11:
Many banks will be closed on this day due to Dusshera (Mahashtami/Mahanavami)/Ayudha Pooja/Durga Puja (Dasain)/Durga Ashtami.
Banks will be closed in cities like Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, and Kolkata. Patna, Ranchi, and Shillong.
October 12:
October 12 is a second Saturday, which is a default holiday for banks. Hence, banks across India will be closed. On this day, the auspicious occasion of Dussehra aka Vijayadashmi will be celebrated, which is the last date of the Navratri festival.
The nine-day annual Hindu festival, Navratri has commenced from October 3 and will continue till the next week. Although Navratri is most celebrated two or four times in India, however, the most popular one is the Sharada Navaratri which is celebrated from September to October. That being said, banks will be closed during the last date of Navratri, renowned as Dussehra.
October 13:
All banks will be closed on this day due to Sunday.
October 14:
Further, banks are closed on October 14th due to Durga Puja (Dasain). However, not all banks have this holiday. It is only applicable to banks situated in Gangtok.
RBI's holidays are divided into three categories such as -- Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays; and Banks' Closing of Accounts. Bank holidays in India 2024, vary from state-to-state and city-to-city.
In general terms, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The fifth Saturday of a month with five Saturdays is a working day for banks. In the past, banks would only open for a half-day on Saturdays.
Bank holidays in India and for that matter, the public holidays are decided by the central government, the state government and the various union territories in the country.
