Bank Holidays In March 2026: Banks Will Be Closed For 18 Days: Holi, Gudi Padwa, Eid-Ul-Fitr To Ram Navami

With the onset of March 2026, banks are in for a long holiday month. In total, all scheduled commercial banks of India will enjoy eighteen holidays, including second and third Saturdays and all Sundays. Furthermore, to add more cherries to their joy, banks will have at least 11 festive holidays. These festivals include Holika, Eid-Ul-Fitr, Gudi Padwa, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti, among others, which will be celebrated this month.

Bank Holidays This Week:

Banks will be closed on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th due to the three-day-long holi festival. However, the holidays may vary from city to city.

March 2:

Banks in cities like Kanpur and Lucknow will be closed on March 2nd due to Holika dahan.

March 3:

Meanwhile, banks in cities like Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada will be closed due to the second day of Holi festival. Other festivals like Dol Jatra, Dhulandi, Holika Dahan and Attukal Pongala will also be celebrated in some parts of the country.

March 4:

However, banks will be closed in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Shimla. This will be due to Holi, Dhuleti and Yaosang 2nd Day festival.

From the RBI list, it is stated that banks will be closed in Kanpur and Lucknow for three-days straight this weekend. While banks in cities like Patna, Ranchi and Dehradun will be closed for two consecutive days.

Holi 2026:

Holi is a traditional old sacred festival of Hindus, celebrated widely across India and in many regions of other countries. The festival is celebrated with fun and playful manner by throwing coloured water and powder at each other. The significance of the festival is triumph of good over evil.

Bank Holiday On March 13:

On this day, banks will be closed in cities like Aizawl for celebration of Chapchar Kut.

Chapchar Kut 2026:

This festival is popularly known as spring festival which is celebrated in Mizoram, which marks the completion of the clearing of the jungle ready to be farmed.

Bank Holiday On March 17:

Banks will be closed in cities like Jammu and Srinagar for celebration of Shab-I-Qadr on March 17.

Shab-e-Qadr 2026:

Shab-e-Qadr which is also referred as Laylat al-Qadr, is one of the most important nights for Muslims during the Ramadan month. This night is believed to holy as reportedly the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel.

Bank Holiday On March 19:

A host of festivals are falling on March 19 including Gudhi Padwa, Ugadi Festival, Telugu New Year's Day, Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba), and 1st Navratra.

Accordingly, banks will be closed in cities like Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Srinagar, and Vijayawada.

Gudi Padwa 2026:

Gudi Padwa is a spring festival observed on the initial day of the Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar. Predominantly celebrated in Maharashtra and Goa, the festival signifies the commencement of the Hindu New Year according to the lunisolar calendar, as per Indian Culture website.

Bank Holiday On March 20:

This day will be important for Muslims across the world as the Eid-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan) and Jumat-ul-Vida are expected to be celebrated. But the main date will be finalised after the sighting of the crescent moon. As of now, banks are expected to be closed in Jammu, Kochi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada for the celebration of Ramzan.

Eid ul-Fitr 2026:

Eid ul-Fitr is an occasion for celebrating the completion of Ramadan with family and friends. It's also a means of showing happiness and gratitude to Allah, as per Islamic Relief UK.

Bank Holiday On March 21:

Notably, it is expected that the main Shawal-1, Khutub-E-Ramzan, and Sarhul could fall on March 21. Hence, majority of banks in major cities will be closed on this day. These cities are --- Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Srinagar.

Bank Holiday On March 26 and March 27:

Banks on these two dates will be closed for celebration of Shree Ram Navami and Chaite Dasain.

March 26: On this day, banks will be shut in cities like Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ranchi, and Shimla.

March 27: Meanwhile, banks will be closed on March 27 in cities like Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Patna, and Vijayawada.

Ram Navami 2026:

Ram Navami being the day when Lord Rama appeared in his human and divine form, is celebrated with great reverence and festivities all over India, but especially in the sacred city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Leading up to Ram Navami, Hindus observe the 9-day fast during the Chaitra Navaratri, as per Utsav website.

Bank Holiday On March 31:

Banks will be closed in cities like Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, and Ranchi for the celebration of Mahavir Janmakalyanak/Mahavir Jayanti.

Mahavir Jayanti 2026:

Mahavir Jayanti 2026 will be celebrated on March 31, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. It is a day of prayers, fasting, and acts of charity, observed by Jains across India. The festival emphasises non-violence, truth, and compassion, reflecting Mahavir's core teachings, as per Vedantu website.

Bank Holidays On March 14 & March 28:

All banks in the entire country will be closed on March 14 and March 28 as they are the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, a mandatory weekend holiday announced by RBI.

Bank Holidays On March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22, March 29

All banks will be closed on these dates as they are Sunday holidays.
