Bank Holidays November 2024: Indian banks are in for a four-day long weekend starting from November 7th to 10th. That means, banks will be closed for four days straight. However, bank holidays vary from city to city, and hence, chances are that not all banks in India will be shut. Some would be operational too. Check the full list here!
Banks will be operational as normal procedure from November 4th to 6th. However, the four-day holiday comes after these days.

November 7, 2024, Thursday:
As per the RBI list, banks will be closed on November 7th due to Chhath (Evening Arghya),
Chhath is an ancient Indo-Nepalese Hindu festival, native to Nepal and East India. It is celebrated especially in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh; and the Nepalese Autonomous provinces of Koshi, Lumbini, and Madhesh. In the major northern urban centres, hundreds of thousands of Nepalis and East Indians celebrate it in cities including Kathmandu Valley, Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. During Chhath Puja, prayers are dedicated to the solar deity, Surya: to show gratitude for bestowing the bounties of life on Earth and to request that certain wishes be granted, as per Wikipedia.
That being said, banks will be closed in cities like Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi on Thursday. Remaining other cities, banks will be opened.
November 8, 2024, Friday:
On this day, banks will be closed due to the Chhath (Morning Arghya)/Wangala Festival.
According to Wikipedia, Wangala is also called the festival of "The Hundred Drums", a harvest festival celebrated by the Garo tribe, who live in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Assam in India and Greater Mymensingh in Bangladesh. In this post-harvest festival, they give thanks to Misi Saljong the sun god, for blessing the people with a rich harvest. Wangala is celebrated in the months from September to December, with different villages setting different dates for the occasion.
Banks will be closed in cities like Patna, Ranchi. and Shillong.
November 9, 2024, Saturday:
Since November 9th is the second Saturday of the month, banks will be closed all over India. As per the latest rule, second Saturday is bank holiday by default.
However, notably, as per the latest reports, the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and employee unions have likely agreed on a five-day working week. This is reportedly expected to come into effect from December onward. Moreover, the Indian government's approval on this is awaited.
November 10, 2024, Sunday:
All banks are closed in India as Sunday is a default holiday.
What transactions can you carry when banks are opened? As per the guidelines of RBI, all money market segments, namely, call/notice/term money, market repo and Collateralised Borrowing and Lending Obligation(CBLO) will remain open on all working Saturdays as on any normal business day.
While payment services such as Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), Cheque Clearing operated by various Bankers' Clearing Houses in the country including the grid-based Cheque Truncation System (CTS) and ECS suite [Electronic Clearing Service (ECS), Regional Electronic Clearing Service (RECS) and National Electronic Clearing Service (NECS)].
