Industry leaders have expressed approval of the West Bengal budget for 2025-26, highlighting its emphasis on MSMEs, infrastructure, climate resilience, and social welfare. Business chambers have described the budget as progressive and growth-oriented, with allocations designed to stimulate economic expansion and job creation. The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I) noted the state's impressive 7.3% industrial growth, surpassing the national average of 6.2%.

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Director General Rajeev Singh commended the budget for prioritising infrastructure development, climate adaptation, social empowerment, and revitalising the tea industry. A 4% increase in dearness allowance for state employees is expected to enhance purchasing power and stimulate consumer demand. The Rs 500 crore allocation for the Gangasagar bridge aims to transform the pilgrimage site into a significant tourism hub, generating employment opportunities.
Focus on Infrastructure and Climate Resilience
The ICC acknowledged West Bengal's ecological sensitivity by appreciating the Rs 200 crore allocation for the Nodi Bandhan scheme and Rs 500 crore for the Ghatal Master Plan. This large-scale project aims to dredge riverbeds and fortify embankments of at least ten major rivers in the state, addressing climate resilience and flood mitigation. The budget's extension of the state tax waiver on income from tea production for another year will support the GI-tagged Darjeeling tea industry and boost export potential.
Vivek Jalan, Chairperson of BCC&I's National Fiscal Affairs and Taxation Committee, highlighted that West Bengal ranks second in India for MSME presence, contributing 10% to this sector. The budget's Rs 1,229 crore allocation for MSMEs is anticipated to further support small businesses. Additionally, allocations for road construction under the Pathasree scheme (Rs 1,500 crore) and housing under Banglar Bari (Rs 9,600 crore) are expected to rejuvenate the employment-generating real estate sector and provide housing for marginalised communities.
Economic Growth and Employment Generation
NG Khaitan, President of Bharat Chamber of Commerce (BCC), described the budget as pro-people and pragmatic, focusing on inclusive growth, rural development, education, and healthcare. He welcomed initiatives in skill development, employment generation, and MSME support as commitments to economic resilience. Khaitan praised the State Level Invest Synergy Committee for simplifying clearance processes for industrial projects.
He emphasised that hassle-free land allocation for proposed economic corridors would make West Bengal an attractive investment destination. Khaitan also lauded the state's procurement of Made-in-West Bengal products, supporting indigenous manufacturers, particularly MSMEs. He noted that increased purchasing power in rural and semi-urban areas would boost economic activity while improved religious tourism infrastructure would help showcase Bengal's cultural heritage globally.
The government's push for infrastructure expansion and digital transformation reflects a clear vision for socioeconomic progress. This approach is expected to enhance West Bengal's appeal as an investment hub while promoting sustainable development across various sectors.
