Bengaluru News: What was meant to be a joyous celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's historic IPL 2025 title victory turned into a massive tragedy on Wednesday evening, June 4. A stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory parade in Bangalore claimed 11 lives and left 47 injured, sending the entire city into mourning.
The Bangalore stampede occurred after lacs of fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was far above the venue's official capacity of 35,000. Even though the entry was restricted via passes, as per estimate more two lakh people had gathered to be a part of the RCB celebration by joining the victory parade that was initially proposed to begin from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium.
According to major reports, a temporary slab over a drain near the stadium collapsed under pressure, which triggered panic and led to a stampede in Chinnaswamy Stadium premises.
Karnataka Govt. Reaction: Compensation and Responsibility
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to the tragedy, announcing a Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of each of the deceased. The Karnataka government also pledged free medical care to those injured. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was seen coordinating relief efforts and had earlier received the team at the airport.
CM Siddharamaiah via X handler stated that, " Such a tragedy should not have happened while celebrating. We are sorry about this incident. Most of the deceased are young. We will give Rs. 10 lakh as compensation to the families of the deceased. The government will bear the treatment expenses of the injured. The doctors said that the injured escaped with their life. • I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into this tragedy. Appropriate action will be taken against the guilty. Instructions have been given to submit the investigation report within 15 days."

Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has come under fire for lapses in planning and crowd control. The KSCA issued a statement pledging Rs. 5 lakh to each unfortunate family.
"We are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life and the injuries sustained by individuals during this event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this incident. We sincerely regret this tragedy and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this extremely difficult time.
RCB - KSCA announces Rs. 5 lakh to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. We hope this gesture can offer some support and solace in their time of grief." A statement by KSCA read.
Response by RCB
Speaking on the situation, Royal Challengers Bangalore stated, "RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our programme and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe."
RCB Fans Joy Turns Into Grief
The RCB celebration in Bangalore was meant to be a happy moment because the team won the IPL trophy after 18 long years. Tragically, the RCB rally in Bangalore ended in horror for many. The stampede in Bengaluru today has shaken the cricketing community and has also sparked discussions about event safety, crowd management, and civic responsibility in Bangalore today. This incident will likely become a case study in how not to plan an RCB parade or any large-scale public celebration.
