Bangalore News Update: Citizens of Bengaluru will face another rate hike from April 1, 2025. In a major update, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will implement a toll hike across Karnataka, increasing toll rates by 3-5%. This revision will impact major routes, including the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, Bengaluru Airport Road (Kempegowda International Airport Toll), and the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), as per reports. The increase in Karnataka toll rates is based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), which reflects inflation and rising highway maintenance costs.
Bengaluru-Mysuru Motorway Toll Hike - Impact on Commuters
Commuters using the Bengaluru-Mysuru Motorway will face higher toll fees. The Kaniminike and Sheshagirihalli toll plazas will have increased charges, affecting daily travellers and intercity commuters.

New Toll Rates for Bengaluru Airport Road
As per a report from Deccan Herald, for travellers heading to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the Sadahalli toll rates have been revised. A toll hike for cars, jeeps, and light motor vehicles has been announced, where a single journey toll will now cost Rs. 120, which previously was Rs. 115. Similarly, for the return journey, the toll hike is Rs 10, from Rs 170 to Rs 180. However, people can save slightly if they opt for the monthly pass, which has also been hiked from Rs. 3835 to Rs. 3970. This toll hike will impact thousands of travellers commuting to Bengaluru Airport, adding to their overall travel costs.
Toll Increase on Karnataka's Major Highways
The Karnataka toll hike will also affect vehicles using the STRR (Satellite Town Ring Road), Bengaluru-Tirupati Highway, and Bengaluru-Hyderabad Highway, as noted in the Deccan Herald Report. Some key changes include the toll rates for light commercial vehicles and minibuses being increased on these routes, with single journey fares rising to ₹185 from ₹175, return journey charges now at ₹275 from ₹265, and the monthly pass revised to ₹6,100 from ₹5,890. Similarly, toll charges for trucks and buses have also been hiked, with single journey fares increasing to ₹370 from ₹355, return journey rates rising to ₹550 from ₹535, and the monthly pass now costing ₹12,265, up from ₹11,845.
Why Are Karnataka Toll Charges Increasing?
Reports suggest that the April 1 toll increase is an annual adjustment based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), ensuring that highway maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and operational costs are covered. NHAI officials stated that the hike is necessary to maintain road quality, safety, and traffic flow.
Impact on Daily Commuters & Traffic
The Bengaluru toll hike will affect daily office commuters, airport travellers, and transport businesses. Many drivers using the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, Bengaluru Airport Road, and STRR will experience a higher travel expense. Public transport services such as Vayu Vajra airport buses may also see an increase in fares.
So far in 2025, Bengaluru has witnessed multiple price hikes, including increases in metro fares, milk prices, and electricity bills. Adding to this financial burden is the latest toll hike, which is expected to further strain the budgets of middle-class residents in Bengaluru and Karnataka as a whole. With a series of successive price increases, it will be interesting to see how consumers react and whether there will be any repercussions from these rate hikes.
