Bharat Taxi, India's first government-backed cooperative ride-hailing app, will officially start on January 1, 2026, in Delhi-NCR before expanding nationwide. The Bharat Taxi app is expected to challenge private cab aggregators like Ola, Uber, and Rapido by offering zero-commission rides, transparent pricing, and a driver-owned model.

What Is Bharat Taxi?
Bharat Taxi is designed as a cooperative-based mobility platform, where drivers are not treated as partners of a private company but as owners within a cooperative system. Unlike existing ride-hailing apps that charge high commissions, Bharat Taxi will follow a zero-commission model which will help drivers to retain a major share of their earnings.
The initiative is backed by the government and supported by the National e-Governance Division. It will be operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited under the Ministry of Cooperation.
Bharat Taxi Launch Details and Pilot Phase
The Bharat Taxi app will see its full rollout in Delhi-NCR on January 1, 2026. Ahead of the launch, pilot operations were conducted in Delhi and Gujarat from December 2025, involving more than 650 vehicles across cabs, autos, and bike taxis.
After the Delhi launch, the app is expected to expand to other major cities across India, marking a pan-India rollout in phases.
Key Features of the Bharat Taxi App
The Bharat Taxi app offers several features in terms of transparency, safety, and affordability:
- Zero commission on rides, unlike private aggregators
- No surge pricing, ensuring predictable and transparent fares
- Support for cabs, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis
- Multilingual interface, including Hindi, English, and regional languages
- Availability on Android and iOS platforms
- Passengers can expect pricing that is often lower than existing ride-hailing platforms, especially during peak hours.
How Will Drivers Benefit?
One of the biggest highlights of Bharat Taxi is its driver-owned cooperative structure. Drivers can retain 80% to 100% of their earnings, depending on the membership plan they choose.
There will be zero commission on every ride, and the earnings will be settled through monthly credits. There will be nominal daily, weekly, or monthly membership fees instead of per-ride deductions.
Safety Features and Passenger Experience
The app includes GPS-based live ride tracking, an emergency SOS button, verified driver profiles and the option to share live trip details with family or emergency contacts. In cities like Delhi, the app is expected to integrate with local police systems, such as the Delhi Police, to enhance emergency response.
How to Book a Ride on Bharat Taxi
Booking a ride on Bharat Taxi follows a familiar process:
