Key Announcements for the Education Sector

The Union Budget 2025 has placed a significant emphasis on education reform, focusing on scientific innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), skill development, and higher education infrastructure. Here are some of the major announcements dedicated to the education sector in India:

• Establishment of 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to foster scientific temper and encourage innovation and hands-on learning among young minds. These labs will play a crucial role in promoting STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at the school level.
• ₹500 crore allocated for the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, aimed at boosting AI literacy and research, ensuring India remains at the forefront of technological advancements.

  
• Infrastructure upgrades for five new IITs, allowing for an increase in student enrollment by 6,500, which will significantly improve access to quality higher education.
• Removal of TCS (Tax Collected at Source) on remittances under the Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS) for education loans, reducing the financial burden on students pursuing education abroad.
