The Central Government has once again extended the timeframe for linking PAN and Aadhaar. On 17th September, the Ministry of Finance made this announcement and has extended the deadline by six months, from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The Central Government, in continuation of its commitment to address the hardship being faced by various stakeholders on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, has, on consideration of representations received from various stakeholders, decided to extend timelines for compliances under the Income-tax Act, 1961, CBDT said in the statement.

According to the declaration of CBDT "Time limit for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income tax Department for linking of PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from 30th September, 2021 to 31st March, 2022"
CBDT has also extended the deadline for completing penalty procedures under the Act from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The deadline for the Adjudicating Authority to issue a notice and impose an order under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 has also been extended until March 31, 2022, according to the statement of CBDT.
How to link PAN with Aadhaar on or before the new deadline?
The PAN-Aadhaar linking process can be done both online and offline. By following the steps mentioned below, you can link your PAN with Aadhaar instantly from the comfort of your home or workplace.
Online method:
- Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal and under the 'Our Services' section, click on 'Link Aadhaar'.
- Now enter your PAN Number, Aadhaar Number, Name as per Aadhaar, Registered Mobile Number (Linked with Aadhaar), and accept the declaration.
- Please double-check that the Aadhaar Number and Name as per Aadhaar fields are identical to those on your Aadhaar card.
- Now click on Link Aadhaar and your PAN-based name, date of birth, and gender will be verified against your Aadhaar credentials.
- Upon successful verification, you will get a successful message on your mobile number.
Offline method:
To link the PAN with the Aadhaar number, an individual must send an SMS with the following text:
Type UIDPAN(space)(12 digit Aadhaar)(space)(10 digit PAN) and send it to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number. Individuals can simply link their PAN with their Aadhaar through SMS free of cost. You will get a successful message on your mobile phone number after your PAN and Aadhaar details have been verified.
