Union Home Minister Amit Shah identifies chemical fertilisers as a cause of diseases and promotes natural farming as a means to increase farmers' income and enhance public health.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has highlighted the detrimental effects of chemical fertilisers, linking them to numerous diseases. He advocated for natural farming, which he claims boosts farmers' income by at least 1.5 times, conserves water, and enhances public health. Speaking at a Farmers Conference, Shah emphasised the government's efforts to create a comprehensive system to elevate Indian agricultural produce to global standards.

Shah mentioned that over 400 laboratories will soon certify farmers' produce, potentially increasing their income significantly. "Chemical fertilisers are the root cause of many diseases today," he stated. He stressed that natural farming not only maintains but also purifies farmers' produce. This traditional practice, often forgotten, can be revitalised using resources like cow dung and urine from indigenous cows.
Natural Farming's Global Market Potential
The global market for natural farming is vast, according to Shah. To tap into this potential, a complete system is being developed, encompassing soil testing, certification, laboratory analysis, and packaging. This initiative aims to ensure that Indian farmers' produce reaches international markets more effectively.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established two major cooperative institutions through the Ministry of Cooperation. These institutions focus on certifying natural farming produce, testing it in modern labs, and handling its packaging, marketing, and export. Shah noted that this approach could guide many farmers and cowherds towards progress.
Empowering Farmers Through Natural Methods
Shah shared his personal experience with natural farming on his farms, noting increased production levels. He mentioned that approximately 40 lakh farmers in India have adopted this method. The approach can generate incomes of up to Rs 1.25 lakh per acre of land and is particularly beneficial for small farmers.
During his visit to the Basavan Mama Cow Project, Shah praised it as an effective model for empowering small and marginal farmers through natural farming. The project serves as a successful experiment in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Cultural Significance and Environmental Commitment
Basavan Mama is revered as a folk deity in the Vindhya region for his environmental sacrifices in the 8th century. Shah urged everyone to commit to serving nature by planting at least five peepal trees each, known for their high oxygen output.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Minister Prahlad Patel, and other leaders. Shah's remarks underscored the importance of adopting sustainable practices for both economic and environmental benefits.
